Dive Masters

The Dive Master course is a challenging and rewarding course that is your first step to becoming a PADI professional. This is an internationally recognised certification and can lead to employment worldwide as a Dive Master. The Dive Master course runs over 3 weeks and you will receive hands on training gaining valuable experience in the working field of a Dive Master. Here are a few facts regarding the course for your interest.

Philosophy of the Dive Master Course

The PADI Dive Master course builds on the problem solving skills developed in the PADI Rescue Diver program, and extends their application from accident management and prevention to supervisory situations with students and certified divers. You will expand your dive knowledge, develop your leadership abilities, and hone your skills to the professional level. As a Dive master, you will be able to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers. You will become role models who follow responsible dive practices and demonstrate car for the aquatic environment. Your knowledge, skill and enthusiasm for diving helps people have fun within their interest and skill levels.

Course Structure

The PADI Dive Master course is divided into Knowledge Development, Water skills development and Stamina, and Practical Application Sections. Independent study is a must and can begin before your practical training if you would like to get ahead start. Supporting products would be the PADI Dive Master Manual, Encyclopaedia of Recreational Diving and Knowledge Workbook. These can be purchases at your local PADI Dive Centre or ordered through Octoplus Adventures.

The Knowledge Development section includes Nine chapters covering topics such as the Role and Characteristics of a PADI Dive Master, assisting with student divers, awareness of the dive environment, and dive theory review. You will also formulate an Emergency Assistance Plan and conduct a two-part final exam covering what you have learnt in the PADI Dive Master manual.

The Waterskills development and Stamina training will take place in our training pool. The instructor will conduct dive skill workshops to help you develop demonstration-quality skills. Remember, you will be demonstrating to students so you must be able to do the skills for them to copy! Your fitness will be tested with a 400-meter swim, 15-minute float\tread, 800-meter snorkel swim, a 100-meter tired diver tow, and equipment exchange exercise.

The Practical Application section includes a mapping project, dive briefing, search and recovery scenario, and a deep dive scenario. You will assist an instructor with real students on an entire Open water Course, assisting on another higher level course and leading certified divers in Open Water.
